It’s that time of year where all the teachers are counting down the days until the end of school, while trying to cram in as much learning as possible and keeping the students under control and excited about school. We have 8 more weeks left where I teach, and I know it’s going to go by like THAT, but, I also know it’s going to take a lot of coffee, sweat, and planning to get there.
The third quarter of school for us was harder than hard. We had 11 straight weeks with NO days off, NO national holidays, and (obviously) NO snow days, as…This Is Africa. Spring break could not come soon enough! And once it did come, it wasn’t long enough! But, thankfully, our leaders had planned a little weekend getaway after spring break, and it really allowed us to unwind, relax, and get ourselves rejuvenated for the final stretch!
The place where we stayed is called Snowcap. It’s about a 2.5 hour drive up Mount Kilimanjaro from where I’m at in Moshi. It was an INCREDIBLE break from the heat, the dust, and the hustle and bustle!
Being up the mountain some, it was drastically cooler than where I live. Like, by a good 20 degrees, at least. That means we were cozying up in sweatshirts, jeans, and wool blankets in 60-70 degree weather! You definitely get accustomed to high heat when you’re in it 24/7! This open fire felt AMAZING!!! 🙂 (even though it was a bit interesting with the logs two feet outside the fireplace! LOL)
It was BEAUTIFUL up there- so many different types of trees and flowers! God’s handiwork continues to astound me.
These lilies lined a main walkway on the property, and smelled so good! It added such a whimsical touch to the place.
We stayed in cabins like this. It looked like a mashup of Tanzania and somewhere in the Swiss Alps! I had this feeling like we needed to head to the ski slopes, even though there was no snow!
Everything was done in an incredibly charming way. The quaint cabins, the beautiful flowers, the environment, it was perfect!
I love the mix of pine trees and sunflowers! Driving up, we could smell the pine and eucalyptus trees!
The views driving down the mountain were stunning. Sometimes, I still cannot believe I LIVE here!
I’m SO blessed to have these opportunities while living here in Tanzania! What adventures have you been on lately? As far as I’m concerned, every day is a new adventure, no matter where you are or what you’re doing!
