Last week I made one of the yummiest and easiest desserts ever. It is quite addictive and all I gotta say is that I’m very happy we make a whole pan of these ooey gooey yummies! (I know, it’s not good for the hips, but it sure is delish on the lips!)
This recipe for Caramel Bars has been in my family for years! My mom got it from my grandma, and so on. They are fabulous for any party, or just a yummy dessert at home! Last week we had a couple of snowy days where I was cooped up at home, and I really wanted to bake! So, what’s a blogger to do than take pictures and post the recipe!!
Ingredients
1 cup flour
1 cup oats
3/4 cup butter
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1 bag Kraft Caramels
5 Tbls. evaporated milk
1 1/2 cups chocolate chips
1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees
2. Mix the base together
Cream the butter and sugar. You can do this by hand, but I prefer the mixer, because it makes it much easier!
Add the dry ingredients
Mix until the dough forms.
3. Press most of the base into a 9×13 pan, just until it covers the bottom. Leave enough of it to sprinkle over the top.
4. Bake base in the oven for 10 minutes, until light golden brown.
5. Mix up the caramel mixture.
You can do this while the base is baking! For the caramels, I like to use the Kraft caramel bits, because you don’t have to unwrap them, like the regular caramels! Put caramels into a microwave-safe bowl, and add evaporated milk.
Microwave for 30 seconds at a time, stirring in between, until the caramels are completely melted, and everything is smooth.
6. Layer the bars.
Once the base is out of the oven…
Sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the base. NOTE: it is fine if the base is still warm! It’s going back into the oven no matter what!
Then cover chocolate chips with the caramel.
Use the rest of the base to crumble on top
7. Bake 15-20 minutes, until the crumble is golden brown.
And that’s it! Cut into squares and ENJOY!!
