Happy Friday!! It’s been a fantastic week, and I can’t wait to share what I’ve been up to with you all! If you’re new to my blog, WELCOME! I’ve been connecting with other teacher-bloggers a lot this week, so I’m glad to have you if you’re new here!! Today I’m linking up with Doodlebugs Teaching for Five for Friday!
Have you heard of the smartphone app called Periscope?! Well, if not, it is this awesome hub where people host a video broadcast in live time, of them, or an event, etc. You can follow your friends and get notifications whenever they go live! Well, Angie and Ashley have all got us #periscopeteachers inspired! They are coming to us live from the TPT Vegas conference this week and chatting about all the awesome things going on there! Last night I even got up the courage to do my first broadcast! It was so much fun and exciting to connect with other teachers! The videos from the live broadcasts stay up on the app for you to replay for 24 hours before they go away. So, if you want to see my first broadcast, download the Periscope app, create your profile, follow me (@allieelliott) and then watch my broadcast! It’ll only be there until about 8pm tonight (Friday)! It was seriously so exciting to see others joining in, and it’ll be a great way to get to know you all. I’m already planning to do a classroom tour when I get back to Tanzania and get it ready! If you’re not already on the app, stop reading right now and download!
I’ve been really working hard this week to be healthier- getting back to the gym and working out every day, and watching what I eat and eating healthier! I’m doing a Dietbet, which means I put $10 in a pot with lots of other people and we are all working on losing 4% of our weight in 4 weeks!! This is giving me motivation to not only earn my money back but make some money! I’m also back on the app MyFitnessPal, where I track my calories-food and exercise. Request me (@allieelliott) and I’ll follow you back! Anyways, I’ve already seen results, and am feeling really good about being a healthier happier me!
Along with getting healthy, I’ve been looking for and making some really delicious healthy foods! Cooking is very therapeutic for me, and I love it! A few nights ago I made this Thai Chopped Kale Salad with a Sesame Ginger dressing, and am working on a blog post with the recipe for next week! It was delicious, and it makes six servings. So I divided the six servings out into plastic baggies (not putting the dressing in right away), and so now I have had six meals prepped for me this week.
I’m really excited to be a part of Sun, Sand, and Second Grade‘s 1000 Facebook Followers Celebration! Briana is hosting TWO days of Flash Freebies- July 13-14! My freebie will go live at 11 am eastern time on Tuesday, July 14th! I’m so excited to scoop up TONS of awesome freebies! If you’re wanting to get in on the action, make sure to follow Sun, Sand, and Second Grade’s FB page and blog!
Lastly, I’m so excited that I (somewhat) know what grade I’m teaching next year! I’m not sure if I’m “allowed” to announce it yet (but I did on my Periscope broadcast! So go check that out if you’re reading this on Friday!). It may change (TIA- This is Africa); however, I’m glad to have some sort of an idea! It’s not quite what I was hoping for, but I know it’ll be great! The good news is that I have a classroom “theme” in mind, it’s actually mostly from the teacher two years ago, who left a bunch of her supplies for future classes to use! It’s going to be a Jungle theme; and I’m going to be freshening it up with some fun bright colors too! I can’t wait to do some crafting and shopping for it!
It’s been a great week of excitement, connecting with other teachers via Periscope and Instagram, and bettering myself, getting ready to head back to Tanzania in four and a half weeks! What have you been up to this week?! Are you on Periscope yet?! If you follow me, I’ll follow you! I want to do another broadcast soon- it’s so fun! Have an awesome weekend!
Much Love, Allie
