One of the many eventful parts of my week was putting together a surprise bridal shower for my head chaplain Hannah! The group of us seven chaplains in my dorm (also called my dorm group) decided a few weeks back to throw her this surprise shower, since she will be getting married the day after graduation! So we divided up the responsibilities with food, games, and decorations, and decided the best time to have it would be during one of our meetings with the dorm group! We decided, since Hannah and I lived on the same wing, to have it my room. So my responsibilities were: to decorate and prepare my room for the shower, to have a dessert, and, of course, to get a gift for the bride. What a great opportunity to use Pinterest!! I have all of these fun ideas on my pinboards, and no outlet to try them! So I decided to make a garland from A Beautiful Mess blog that turned out so cute!!
I added some pastel pink balloons all over my room for an added girly flair! Also, I have a fun chair in my room that worked out as the perfect bride chair! For my dessert, I made skewers of angel food cake and strawberries drizzled in dark chocolate! They were a huge hit!! Also, one of the chappies, Jessica, decided it would be funny to make face masks of Hannah’s fiance for us to wear when we surprised Hannah! Here’s one of them!
Anyways, the day finally came! Before our scheduled meeting she texts us that she has a surprise for us tonight! The funny thing was, we had a bigger surprise for her! So 10pm comes, and we decide to make the quest over to her room to get her for our bridal shower! As we get closer to the room, we notice HER DOOR IS OPEN! So another chappy, Sami, goes for it and tries to close the door. After some added effort with a door stop in the way, we close the door, get down on one knee with the masks over our faces and knock on the door and say, “Hannah will you marry me?!” Then, as Hannah is screaming in surprise while our “surprise” (a guest speaker) was there, we blindfold her and take her to my room, sit her down, and take off the blindfold! The rest was history! There was laughing, crying, and lots of surprised expressions! Hannah was SO surprised! She loved it! Her guest speaker was the head chaplain of our dorm last year, and didn’t mind joining in on the festivities! We played games, opened presents, and had a special time of prayer over Hannah at the end. It was so much fun putting together this shower, and the best part was the surprise!!
